Where's The Party At?

Pixar's The Good Dinosaur was to have a Monsters University short film attached to it. Problem is, that Pixar film had been delayed from its planned summer 2014 release to the autumn of 2015. Of course, we all know this happened and why it had to happen, but…

Figuring Fox's Animation Slate Out

In an attempt to fire back at a very confident Disney, who announced a giant upcoming animation slate that ended in fall 2018, 20th Century Fox grabbed dates for animated films from DreamWorks, Blue Sky and Fox Animation. Their slate capped off a month after Disney's...

A new film based on Peanuts is something to celebrate, right?

No Tintin 2?

Peter Jackson, in an interview with the New Zealand Herald, stated that after The Hobbit trilogy wraps up, he will be going small-scale...

Animation Box Office Update (October 2013)

We are now in a rather slow month for box office, though this month may be blockbuster month one day thanks to the success of Alfonso Cauron's Gravity - which I finally saw yesterday and greatly admired -  and we'll start seeing bigger films open during this month. Heck, it may be ripe for big animated films! LAIKA and Reel FX could make that month a goldmine, amongst other studios...

The Event

To the people at Disney marketing... I have one thing to say...

Now that's how you do a trailer!

I couldn't resist the pun, Pixar's first ever television special delivered on all fronts. Toy Story of Terror is not only a lot of fun, but it's another great adventure with the beloved toy gang.

Marvel's Pieces

Months ago, two Disney/Marvel fanatics and I speculated about Marvel's future. Marvel's much-touted Marvel Cinematic Universe is truly firing on all cylinders, as it took off like a rocket with Iron Man over five years ago. With The Avengers behind them, the second phase is already bursting: More films, a television series, more one-shots and other media that's making this franchise grow rapidly. More and more people are getting enthralled with all of this.

That Second Sequel...

Remember when Disney CEO Bob Iger stated months ago that more sequels were in the pipeline after Monsters University?

I Wanna See That!

This weekend, Alfonso Cauron's highly acclaimed Gravity fell an amazing 20% this weekend, grossing $44 million over the course of three days. Word of mouth is going to be particularly strong for this one, but it's a bit of an anomaly. A lot of "leggy" films often open small (The Help is a good example, off the top of my head) and end up grossing more than $100 million domestically based on the word of mouth, people who saw it telling their friends to go to see it, etc.

Reinventing Spree

Jeffrey Katzenberg has been getting rather ambitious lately, hasn't he? Well, in a business sense, yes.

Farewell, Pixar Canada...

Shocking news hit today... Pixar Canada is no more.

The Popeye Problem

Sony Pictures Animation has a computer animated film based on Popeye in the works, I'm sure you've read about it somewhere. This film was originally scheduled for a fall 2014 release, September 26th to be specific. Genndy Tartakovsky, animation genius and director of the studio's highly successful Hotel Transylvania, is directing it. With how successful Hotel Transylvania was - a project that he salvaged with very little time - it seemed like this film would definitely hit theaters next autumn, right?

The Lost Re-release

This is an interesting bit of Disney history that seems to be overlooked... One that concerns a re-release of one of their classic animated films...

The Ambitious Rebound

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is definitely one of the most notable and interesting films in the Disney animation canon, for its ambitions and darker content but also for good examples of the problems that Disney was having with their animated films at the time... Did it continue the successful streak that the company was enjoying in the 1990s? Or did it slow things down?

More Speed

Sega announced today that a new animated series based on their long-running Sonic The Hedgehog franchise is coming next autumn...

2015... The Real Big Year

Earlier in the year, I talked about how 2014 would not only be a better year for animation than this year, but also just a great one in general. The best one since the bursting-with-goodness 2010...
