The Toys are Back

Woody and Buzz are returning… But don't worry, they're not coming back to the big screen. Instead they'll be hitting the small screen again…

That's right, we got some info on the next half-hour Toy Story television special. It'll be a Christmas special titled Toy Story That Time Forgot, and it'll be directed by Brave co-director Steve Purcell and will be produced by Galyn Susman, the producer of the first special and several other Pixar shorts. The cast adds Kevin McKidd (Lord MacGuffin and his son in Brave), who will voice a new character named Reptilius Maximus. Hmmmm…

The plot?

During a post-Christmas play date, the Toy Story gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. It’s all up to Trixie, the triceratops, if the gang hopes to return to Bonnie’s room.

Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun, and it's cool to see that Trixie will be in the spotlight this time. Toy Story of TERROR! surprisingly really added to Jessie's character, so I'm hoping that this short does the same for the blue triceratops. It's kind of funny how one of the dinos is the main focus of the short, we were supposed to get a feature-length dino tale from Pixar this summer.

Variety got this news earlier today, and suffice to say, I'm glad that we at least know what this one will be like. A Christmas special was a no-brainer, especially after the fact that Toy Story of TERROR! got excellent ratings and got all-around positive reception, something Pixar needed for their last couple of films.

This and the Monsters University short Party Central will make up for the lack of a Pixar feature film this year. I'm sure we'll be getting those Cars Toons that were announced at last summer's D23 sometime this year as well.

Like I said before, Pixar can keep making specials and Toy Story Toons. No fourth film, please?
