When Does It Land?

Since we're not getting a Pixar film this year, this leads me to ask… When will see the teaser for Walt Disney Animation Studios' Big Hero 6?

Since 2010, Disney readies teasers for WDAS films for June so they can attach them to Pixar's films, which have been summer releases since 2006. Tangled's teaser debuted in front of Toy Story 3, Frozen's teaser was attached to Monsters University, Wreck-It Ralph's teaser popped up a few weeks before Brave.

But without a Pixar film with this year, we may not have to wait till summer to see a teaser for this. The test footage that was unveiled last year (which actually predated any released footage from Frozen) is also something of an indicator… So, the candidates… What film will come with Big Hero 6's teaser?

Muppets Most Wanted (March 21st) - A bit unlikely, because The Muppets and Marvel are kind of the polar opposite. That being said, Muppets Most Wanted comes with a Monsters University short, so maybe Disney could get the word out very early. Still, I think it's a bit of stretch… Plus it's a bit too early, perhaps. It is possible, however, that the teaser will contain animation that won't be in the finished film like Frozen's teaser.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4th) - Much more likely, since this is of course a Marvel film. It also makes sense because Disney already put out the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy. Imagine seeing both that and the teaser for Big Hero 6 back-to-back? Now that would be rockin'…

Maleficent (May 30th) - Disney's big summer tentpole this year. If they have to wait until summer to unleash the teaser for Big Hero 6, they will indeed turn to this film.

For me, Captain America and Maleficent are the most likely candidates.

It's also possible that the trailer will be prepared for a non-Disney family-friendly release, like DreamWorks' How To Train Your Dragon 2, since that's opening in Pixar's June spot.

Anyways, anything Disney that comes out after Maleficent will be excluded. Disney's next summer tentpole is Planes: Fire and Rescue, which comes out in July, but Disney won't attach the teaser to that film because it's obviously not going to be seen by tons of people. Anything later than that is out of the question.
