Possible Disney Blu-ray Dates
It's that time again...
The Digital Bits got some dates for upcoming Disney Blu-rays, including the last string of Diamond Editions... However, all of this information came from the Disney Wiki, so like they said, take it all with a grain of salt.
Interestingly enough though, some of these line up with my most recent predictions... Anyways, here's what they're saying...
Hercules - June 10th
Tarzan - June 10th
A Goofy Movie / An Extremely Goofy Movie - June 24th
Muppets Most Wanted - TBD June
Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers - TBD summer
The Black Cauldron - August 19th (listed as a "Special Edition")
Bears - August 26th
Fun & Fancy Free - September 30th
The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad - September 30th
Saludos Amigos & The Three Caballeros - December 2nd
Make Mine Music & Melody Time - December 2nd
Planes: Fire and Rescue - December 9th
One Hundred and One Dalmatians - February 3, 2015
Aladdin - October 6, 2015
Pinocchio - February 2, 2016
Okay... Let's see here...
Hercules and Tarzan were indeed announced on Disney's official website, complete with cover artwork. Going by Disney's pattern in 2013, we'll get these the second Tuesday of June... That's the 10th of course, and we all pretty much knew this. I'm surprised Disney hasn't confirmed this just yet.
A Goofy Movie is a fan favorite, and it would make sense to give this one a proper release on Blu-ray sooner than later. I had predicted March 2015, because 2015 is when the film turns 20. (Excuse me while I grab my cane...)
I had predicted Muppets Most Wanted would hit Blu-ray on June 24th, so I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up coming out that day. The film has unfortunately puttered out at the box office and didn't really make a splash.
Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers actually turns 10 this year, and since Disney has been turning to a lot of direct-to-video/TV stuff to release on Blu-ray these days (A Very Merry Pooh Year, Springtime with Roo), this could happen.
I've had The Black Cauldron pegged for an October release alongside Bedknobs and Broomsticks. The Wiki says it'll be a "Special Edition", so I expect it to be a lot like the Great Mouse Detective Blu-ray where the only major difference was the picture quality and nothing else: Same cover, same bonus features, same everything else. An August release does seem likely, but saving the package films for those random dates? I think they'd all come out the same day, no?
Also, why are Fun & Fancy Free and Ichabod separate when Make Mine Music and Melody Time are on a double pack? I have a hard time believing this, and I'm not quite sure if Disney would be keen on releasing their animated features in September on Blu-ray... Then again they surprised us last year and released a ton of films in March.
Planes: Fire & Rescue's date is most likely right. I had predicted mid-November since unlike the first, it opens in July rather than August.
The Marvel films are missing though... No date for Captain America: The Winter Soldier?
Again, it seems like this is a speculation list. It is from the Disney Wiki after all, but a lot of these - like most predictions for these kinds of things - seem rather plausible.
We shall see...
UPDATE (5/6/2014): Hercules and Tarzan are scheduled for August 12, 2014.
UPDATE (5/10/2014): Fun & Fancy Free and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad will be a double pack, Ichabod will also be a stand-alone release. These two, Bedknobs and Broomsticks and Mickey, Donald and Goofy: The Three Musketeers will all be released on August 12, 2014.
