It's finally here... The teaser trailer for Walt Disney Animation Studios' upcoming action epic, Big Hero 6!
I absolutely love it, no shock there.
First of all, it's a very nice callback to the original teaser for The Incredibles, where a plump Bob Parr suits up and struggles to get his belt on. This is just as amusing, plus it serves as a good introduction to the two leads. Baymax is already a favorite of mine, and as I've said before, the character designs for these two work really well. The teaser doesn't show us anything else other than this workshop, but that's okay.
The teaser does its job perfectly. It gives off a familiar Marvel vibe, it shows that the film will not look or feel like your typical Disney animated film (or mainstream animated film, period), and it delivers a hilarious sequence that audiences are sure to like. No different from Pixar's teasers or last summer's Frozen teaser.
The only minor problem I have with it is the lack of a Marvel mention. This is based on a Marvel comic, and since the trailer doesn't mention Marvel, I just hope the uninitiated don't see this as a cash-in on superhero films and Marvel films in general when it's actually a Marvel-based movie. Then again, Pixar was able to sell The Incredibles back in 2004 - after a string of big superhero movies that included X-Men, Spider-Man, X2 and Spider-Man 2 - with no hassle. People went to go see it, not thinking it was some lame animated superhero movie that was riding the wave to be cool.
Big Hero 6, from what I've gathered, entered development sometime in 2011. Around that time, we got closer and closer to The Avengers. If anything, I think audiences will just be happy to see another superhero film and one that looks really different. Combine that with the smart inclusion of "From the creators of Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen", and I think we'll have a big, no... HUGE hit here.
So yes, it's a fantastic teaser and I'm ready to see more. I've been hyped about this film for years, I think it's destined to be another Disney animated classic.
