Bits Journal #16

Penguins, game-based movies, posters… More bits!

E3 is going on right now, thus we're getting some animation and Disney-related things. (Right now, one of the new things that they revealed about Disney Infinity 2.0 were some PS3/PS4 exclusivities: Hulk in particular.) Updates to come...

Ratchet & Clank's new trailer is up, and I love it. The humor clicks and the animation is great, the different fantasy worlds look pretty neat. Give it a watch…

It still doesn't have an exact release date, but if anything, it'll be a January release. I can just see it happening because Sony wants it to come out in the first quarter next year, this year's The Nut Job proved that you can have a small animated success in January, and the slot is currently free. Better nab it before someone else does!

Speaking of early 2015 animated releases, here's the first poster for SpongeBob SquarePants 2, now titled The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge out of Water

Yeah… I don't know about this poster. While I have no idea whether the whole movie will look like this or not, I'm not sure I like the style they are going for quite yet. I know a chunk of it will be live action, so I'm assuming that the underwater portions are traditionally animated like the show while the real world parts have him in CGI form.

However, the release of this poster implies that a trailer will be attached to How To Train Your Dragon 2. Smart move on Paramount's part, and I hope the film is a success so that Paramount Animation can get off to a good start. The release date also changed recently, it will now be opening on February 6, a week ahead.

Also, here are two new posters for Disney Animation's Big Hero 6!

Hopefully we'll get other character posters soon, because we still only have that blurry first look image of the other characters.

Also, here's your first look at The Penguins of Madagascar, as its teaser should show up some time this week. All of this is courtesy of USA Today...

Benedict Cumberbatch's wolf character - named Classified - looks pretty cool, and his posse has been revealed: A seal named Short Fuse (Ken Jeong), a snow owl who is an explosives expert/a possible love interest for Kowalski named Eva (Annet Mahendru), and an overly-friendly Norwegian bear named Corporal (Peter Stormare). These new faces come from a spy organization called North Wind, and their enemy is an evil octopus named Octavius Brine (who is nicknamed "Dave", voiced by John Malkovich) that plans to destroy all penguins… He already reminds me of Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2. That being said, it looks like they're going to go all out with this film.

I'm not surprised, because Madagascar 3 felt like the first two films' better ideas unleashed. In the first two films, we had the animals acting like humans and such, and occasionally doing some crazy things. (Such as the penguins highjacking the ship in the first film, the makeshift plane in the second.) In the third film we saw them running their own circus and doing other cool things… And also an insane animal control lady who could run through walls like they were nothing and other over-the-top cartoony things like that. Here in this film, we have animals running a freakin' spy organization! I do like the direction they are going with this film, so hopefully it's a lot of fun. The Madagascar series essentially went from typical talking animals comedy to crazy cartoon. That's a-ok, we need more cartoony animated features that do whatever they want.
