The Third Wave

Disney Infinity 2.0 is shaping up to be something spectacular, as we hear more and more announcements concerning playable characters. The Marvel side of things is pretty packed: In addition to the six Avengers, all five Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man and others, we're now getting villains. Things are getting jammed, and on top of that, we're getting - as we all wished - more Disney characters.

Right now, Donald Duck, Stitch, Tinker Bell, the movie version of Maleficent, Hiro and Baymax alongside Pixar's Merida will be the non-Marvel characters arriving this autumn. Aladdin has now been added to that line-up, and Jasmine will kick off a third wave of characters in January 2015…

Hmmm… What will they be?

Before you say Marvel, I think we got enough. Again, here's what we have so far when it comes to Marvel…

  • Iron Man
  • Black Widow
  • Captain America
  • Thor
  • Hulk
  • Hawkeye
  • Rocket
  • Groot
  • Star-Lord
  • Gamora
  • Drax
  • Spider-Man
  • Nick Fury
  • Nova
  • Iron Fist
  • Venom
  • Ronan
  • Loki
  • Green Goblin

The Marvel villains don't have release dates yet, so it is safe to assume that they might be part of Wave 3. However, as much as I'm onboard with Marvel stuff, I like many others want more Disney in "Disney" Infinity, especially before autumn 2015 because you know what will happen. Right? Right??

Anyways, it's kind of bizarre that Aladdin and Jasmine aren't getting a play set. An Aladdin play set would be an excellent addition to the game's line-up, and it would probably sell like hotcakes too. The only play sets we are getting this fall are three Marvel sets (The Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and Spider-Man), I was hoping they'd squeeze at least one Disney play set into the mix. They might, you never know.

A while back, I made a list of characters that I think would work well in Disney Infinity

  • Goofy
  • Snow White & some dwarves
  • Pinocchio
  • Cinderella
  • Alice
  • Peter Pan and Captain Hook
  • Ned Land and Captain Nemo (from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea)
  • Prince Philip
  • Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera and Shere Khan
  • Robin Hood
  • Little John
  • Kevin Flynn
  • TRON
  • Taran
  • Scrooge McDuck
  • Darkwing Duck
  • Belle and Beast
  • Aladdin, Jasmine and Jafar
  • Simba, Nala, Timon, Pumbaa & Scar
  • Goliath (from Gargoyles)
  • Hercules and Megara
  • Mulan
  • Tarzan
  • Kuzco and Pacha
  • Milo Thatch & other characters
  • Jim Hawkins and Captain Amelia
  • Bolt
  • Tiana and Prince Naveen
  • Flynn Rider
  • John Carter, Deja Thoris and Tars Tarkas
  • Fix-It Felix, Jr. and Sgt. Calhoun

Of course, Lion King characters must be on the developers' minds and I'm 100% sure we'll get at least one character. Best case scenario, we get a really cool Lion King play set. I mean, imagine playing as Simba and you can pounce things, roar at enemies and charge. And also do the same with Bagheera and Shere Khan, it'd be cool to introduce more four-legged Disney characters to the game… But then how would they get into cars or ride horses? Maybe the developers can have them run really fast and have them be eligible in Toy Box mode races. I don't know, something like that. Or maybe they can stand on two legs and drive like humans… It'd be kinda weird to see someone like Simba do that, but hey! Infinite possibilities!

Since we're getting Tinker Bell, I bet we'll see Peter Pan some time soon since that film - like I said before - has sword-fighting and action. Pan and Hook would be ideal for this game as well, since the team also lets you play as the baddies. More action-oriented Disney films like the TRON films, Atlantis: The Lost EmpireTreasure Planet and the ill-fated John Carter of Mars are also ripe for this game. Wreck-It Ralph needs a play set, big time, and they also should add Fix-It Felix, Jr. and Sgt. Calhoun. Hey, why not a full Hero's Duty-theme play set? Wouldn't that be awesome?

There's a plethora of characters waiting to be brought into this game, and I'm hoping a good amount of my picks one day make the cut. The people behind Disney Infinity have proven that they are big Disney nuts, I mean… The theme to Condorman is one of the songs you can have playing in Toy Box mode. You don't get any Disney-nuttier than that! They reference all kinds of things from animated films to themes parks to classic shows to live action films, especially ones like Condorman! I bet they'll surprise us…

What do you think we'll see in the third wave of Disney Infinity characters next year?

  1. I love what they are doing with Disney Infinity but I want a Disney Animation playset. All Disney Animation characters that have been released or have been announced so far are only available as Toy Box characters. In contrast, Pixar has four playsets and Marvel has three. Considering how many great worlds DIsney Animation have created, they can do spectacular stuff with them. Hopefully the Big Hero 6 characters will come in a playset and not just for Toy Box mode as Frozen and Ralph were.

  2. Live-action characters may be difficult because they'll have to clear the actors' likenesses.
