Pixar Pipes: Pixar President Updates on Pixar's Pipeline

In an interview with Time Out, a Hong Kong-based publication, Pixar President Jim Morris talked about some things... Some very interesting things...

Most of the interview was him going over general Pixar stuff, Inside Out, and The Good Dinosaur. When asked about what's next, he said...

"We have a bunch of confirmed titles. There’s Finding Dory later this year. We’re working on The Incredibles 2, Cars 3 and Toy Story 4. Dan Scanlon, who did Monsters University is working on an original film. Mark Andrews who directed Brave is working on one, too. We have a new director called Brian Phee, who is working on a new movie, and we have a few shorts that are in the works. I can’t say much more than that or I’ll get in trouble!"

First, in the interview, Morris mentions a "new and equally weird idea" that Pete Docter and Jonas Rivera are developing. Awesome, but old news. This was revealed back when The Good Dinosaur was out. I don't want an Inside Out sequel, and I kinda wish interviewers would stop bringing it up. Don't encourage them!

Odd that there's no mention of Coco, but...

Dan Scanlon's doing an original film? Nice! Prior to this, I (and a few others) speculated that maybe he could be the one to direct Cars 3, since we have no idea who is helming that one... And that's out before Toy Story 4, and we know Mr. Lasseter is directing that with Josh Cooley co-directing.

Coincidentally, Mr. Scanlon tweeted this the other day. A hint? Or just a fun little joke?

I'll be honest, I'd like to see an animated movie about time-traveling flies happen, haha!
We've known since January 2013 that Mark Andrews has been working on an original film. Now... Brian Phee...

I couldn't find much information on him, but is his new movie also an original? Might be. Either way, color me excited. More new directors at Pixar is great, even if it took a few stumbles to fully pass the batons.

Anyways, this is exciting news. Those who worry about Pixar having an abundance of sequels should feel a bit better after reading this, and it's nice to know that Andrews' project is still on. We still don't know who is directing Cars 3, but I think we'll learn soon.

What say you?

UPDATE

Brian Phee is actually Brian Fee. He was a story artist and storyboard artist on films such as Ratatouille, WALL-E, and Monsters University. Inside Out's credits list him as part of the Pixar Senior Creative Team, so it makes sense that he got a directing gig. (Hat tip to the Pixar Post for clearing up the confusion!)

  1. I would have no problem with an Inside Out 2. The ending of the film pretty much shows that they can take this concept further and focus more on trying growing up. As for the original ideas, I can't wait to see what Scanlon, Andrews, Phee. and Docter and Rivera have in store and what they are!

  3. Time Flies... I don't know, it sounds more like it would be a sequel or spinoff to A Bug's Life.

  4. It's good to see Pixar making original movies again, but at the same time, remember this?
