Deeper Into the Ocean: 'Moana' Olympics TV Spot Showcases Action and Tattoo Fun

What better way than to keep the marketing for your upcoming animated musical epic chugging than presenting more footage during the Olympics?

The Moana TV spot that aired yesterday has quite a lot of cool stuff... And thankfully, a lot more of Moana herself. She actually speaks this time, and has a lot of screentime here.

There's some neat things with Maui's tattoos, rendered in traditional animation by the great Eric Goldberg, but there's also nice little hints of the size of the picture's scope. A good look at the pirate beasts, the kakamora, is given to us as well. The color grading in particular is lovely, but we already got a good taste of that in earlier promo materials.

The lava creature, though...

Really, the action here looks on point. Ron Clements and John Musker seem to have successfully brought their energy and style into the CG realm with flying colors. Even if it's a little glimpse, it's exciting. The more I see of this film, the more excited I get. I was always on board, but with slight reservations, but they are slowly fading as the film gets closer...

What do you think of the spot?

  1. I think big dissapointment. At least the bird transformation was nice.
