Doing It All: Mark Osborne and Adam Kline Launch Projects for Fox Animation
Month by month, it seems like 20th Century Fox is doubling down on their animation game now that they are done with DreamWorks...
Even though they are hard at work on the Bone adaptation for Warner Animation Group, director Mark Osborne (Kung Fu Panda, The Little Prince) and writer Adam Kline are set to adapt two of the latter's written works into animated features for Fox.
The first of which will be for Blue Sky. It's titled Escape from Hat, a story about the world inside of a magic hat that's taken over by black cats spreading bad luck, and one white rabbit that must find a way to reunite himself with his owner. Sounds interesting and certain animation-worthy, and I hope that they stick to the cool illustration style of the front cover...
The other book is titled With Kind Regards from Kindergarten. Sounding like a pretty emotional story, it's about two friends who are torn apart from each other. One of them loses their imagination and works in the industry, while the other becomes a reclusive clockmaker.
These both sound like they have potential, and hopefully they're executed in a fresh way. Interestingly enough, the articles don't mention With Kind Regards being a Blue Sky picture. Lately, with all of Fox Animation's recent announcements, it seems like some pictures will be done in Greenwich while others will be made by other houses. That is certainly true of in-the-works projects like The Dam Keeper (Tonko House) and A Tale of Momentum & Inertia (House Special), but some of these other films? We don't know what studios are really making them.
Either way, both are fine additions to the slate and I'm curious to see how they're pulled off. Osborne and the original writer of these books makes for a great team!
What say you?
